Abstract:

Objective

To explore the relationship between serum cardiac ankyrin repeat protein (CARP) and hypersensitive C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), creatine kinase isoenzyme MB (CK-MB), and cardiac troponin I (cTn-I) in patients with acute ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Methods

A total of 60 acute STEMI patients were enrolled in this study. Levels of hs-CRP, CK-MB, cTn-I and CARP were detected at ≤ 6 h, > 6~12 h, > 12~24 h, 72 h after heart attack. The Pearson correlation analysis was used to analyze the relationship between the CARP levels in each period and hs-CRP, CK-MB, cTn-I.

Results

The levels of hs-CRP, CK-MB, cTnI, CARP were significantly different at each period (F = 487.534, 683.673, 666.447, 1121.437, all P < 0.05). Hs-CRP at > 12~24 h and 72 h were much higher than those at ≤ 6 h and > 6~12 h [(29 ± 26), (43 ± 28), (8 ± 7), (8 ± 7)mg/L, all P < 0.05]. CK-MB showed significant differences at ≤ 6 h, > 6~12 h, > 12~24 h, 72 h [(40 ± 16), (124 ± 53), (374 ± 98), (108 ± 40) μg/L, all P < 0.05]. cTnI at > 6~12 h, > 12~24 h, and 72 h were much higher than those at ≤ 6 h after heart attack [(7.3 ± 3.4), (10.3 ± 5.3), (6.5 ± 3.5), (3.6 ± 2.4) μg/L, all P < 0.05]. CARP only at > 12~24 h increased markedly as compared at ≤ 6 h, > 6~12 h, 72 h after heart attack [(1 991 ± 538), (1 391 ± 471), (1 385 ± 407), (1 347 ± 429) kU/L, all P < 0.05]. The Pearson revealed that the CARP levels at each period were positively correlated with CK-MB.

Conclusion

CARP increased obviously in STEMI patients and can be used as a new indicator for the diagnosis of STEMI.
